I will definitely buy from IOGear again. Now the switch works without a hitch with the power supply and throughputs 1080p video with no degredation but i cannot comment on audio as i'm using it to switch video to my projector. As many other reviewers encountered, this device didn't have power to throughput video from my satellite receiver (HDMI 1080i) when my computer (DVI to HDMI 1080p) was turned off. I contacted IOGEAR via email with a response in less than 8 hours and a power supply shipped to me at no charge within 3 days of contacting them - absolutely excellent service for a product so economically priced. I'm using a Harmony remote with the IR / Wireless receiver base to control it and of course it was in the database already.
Not much to say but the hdmi switcher at 28$ is more than worth the money.PLUS a remote control
But, make sure the remote has a direct line of sight so the IR remote will work.CONS:- Remote feels very flimsy and fragile.- Lack of included power supply. No big deal really because it works great.I am very happy with the HDMI switch, and the fact that using it in conjuction with an AV switch for my audio can give me a 1080i HD picture on my DVI input is a great thing. So then I had the delema of only one audio input for the DVI input on the TV. So I picked up a Sima SVS-14 4 Input Manual A/V Selector, also available here on Amazon.
I have had my HD DVR cable box hooked up with a HDMI to DVI converter cable, and it has worked great for years. I dont have a new TV, its a Samsung 52 inch rear screen projection HDTV. (Much older than mine actually).- works with 1080p when I upgrade my TV I can still use it for more devices in the future.- really easy to use, just plug it in and turn on your devices.- I could not see any video degredeation while using this. The device has a power supply port, but doesnt come with one. Its so small, and you really only notice it because of the LED indicator lights. This meant that I needed to get another switch that would be dedicated to the audio. - LEDs are always on.
So I did some research and found this HDMI switch, and I liked what it has to offer. I was able to hook my audio through this and everything works great. But keep in mind, on a better and much newer HDTV you may see something different.- Small and inconspicuous. I bought it in early 2006, and it only has one single DVI input.
My main problem was that I wanted to get a full 1080i HD quality picture when playing my new PS3, I mean thats kinda the point. You can just sit this thing on a shelf, on top of your DVR, DVD, or anything really. Not really a big deal, but it would be nice if they would turn off when all the devices that are connected to it are powered off.The other issue with DVI is that it doesnt transmit audio, the audio is run through regular RCA audio cables. The only pitfall is that when I need to switch the audio, I have to manually flip a switch on the device.
So I just picked up a new PS3 Slim-120, its my first new game system since my original Xbox. PROS:- Has DVI backward compatability to connect newer HDMI devices to an older DVI TV. I was worried that the PS3 would not be able to accomdate this, but you can have the video output set on HDMI and the audio output set to the supplied AV cables.
I think it'd be perfect for switching between normal HDMI devices, such as PS3, XBOX360, Blu-Ray player, or a cable box. If I plugged it in while the computer was on, it worked, but when the computer was restarted or put the display to sleep, the switch wouldn't recognize it after that. I bought this to use on my HDMI monitor (not a TV with a bunch of inputs) to switch between my PS3 and computer. It worked with the PS3 beautifully, but only worked sometimes with the PC. I had to return it.
Connecting more than one device led to static lines on the screen even when only one connected device was powered on.
